the sneaky guy who gets this week’s “hey abbott award” is the former head of the quest telephone company who is bragging now that he didn’t give the united states government telephone records as did other telephone companies.

notice the use of the word “former.” we shall get back to that in a few more sentences.

this telephone flap has to do with the bush administration claiming that they need everyone’s telephone records so they can find out who is al qaeda and who isn’t. that is a load of crap, but that is another argument for another day.

the word “former” was used because joseph p. nacchio, the former chief executive of quest is no longer working at that company because he is probably on his way to jail for a variety of strange financial dealings.

as a matter of fact, his case will be soon going to trial.

isn’t it interesting that joe is being acclaimed as some type of hero of freedom of speech by the anti-bush people? perhaps along with joe’s freedom of speech activities, his freedom of shifty financial dealings should be acclaimed also?

in any event, in all the published report about this phony defender of privacy, no one mentions that he will soon be in a cell.

here is our theory. joe was asked to give up the information by the bush people. he said he would if they would let him off the hook and not prosecute him for his transgressions.

the bush folks said one thing had nothing to do with the other.

once we find out what prison joe is in, we will give you the address so you can send him some clean underwear.
